Illinois Real Estate License Renewal Requirements

IL Real Estate License Renewal Broker 2nd and subsequent

12 hours of continuing education. Courses must include:

  • 3 hours Core A
  • 3 hours Core B
  • 6 hours of Electives


Leasing Agent

6 hours of continuing education. Courses must include:

  • 3 hours Core A
  • 3 hours of Electives


Managing Broker

12 hours of continuing education. Courses must include:

  • 3 hours Core A
  • 3 hours Core B
  • 6 hours of Electives
  • 12 hrs Broker Management (classroom only)


6 HOUR RULE:

Illinois real estate licensees are not allowed to complete more than 6 hours of continuing education in a day. It is up to the student to monitor and make sure they don't violate this rule.

Renewal Cycle:

Managing Brokers must renew their license by April 30 of every odd numbered year

Brokers must renew their license by April 30 of every even numbered year

Leasing Agents must renew their license by July 31 of every even numbered year

Note - A person whose license has been expired for more than 2 years will need to meet all the requirements as a new licensee, including completing all pre-license education and passing the exam. See Section 5-50(c) of the Act.

Exempt:

Exemptions include; an individual who served in the armed services of the United States during the renewal period and a real estate licensee who is also an active Illinois licensed attorney. See Section 5-70(b) of the Act.
