Continuing education requirements for South Dakota

Real Estate CE is a fully accredited school for real estate ce in South Dakota. Make sure to check the ce renewal requirements below when you're doing your continuing education!

South Dakota Real Estate License Renewal Requirements

SD Real Estate License Renewal Brokers, Broker Associates, Property Managers and Real Estate Auctioneers

24 hours of continuing education. Courses must include:

  • 12 hours of Required subjects
  • 12 hours of Electives

Renewal Cycle: Every 2 years by November 30th.

Inactive: A licensee whose license is on file with the SDREC office on inactive status is not required to meet the continuing education requirements. However, in order to activate the license, a licensee must have 24 hours of continuing education in the two years preceding activation of the license. Education courses used to activate a license may not be used again to renew a license. A broker associate who goes inactive during Postlicensing Period 1 must complete the 30 hours of Postlicensing 1 to reactivate the license. A broker associate who goes inactive during Postlicensing Period 2 must complete the 30 hours of Postlicensing Period 2 to reactivate the license.

Exempt: The SDREC office may make exceptions and grant extensions for continuing education for reasons of health, military service or other good cause if proof is provided to the commission office.

Nonresident Licensees: Nonresident brokers and salespersons who hold a South Dakota license are exempt from the continuing education requirements if the licensee meets the education requirements in the state of residence.

Roster Reporting Procedures for South Dakota

Upon completion of all the course steps, a certificate will immediately, and always be available for printing from your account.

Continuing education credits will be transmitted electronically to the South Dakota Real Estate Commission the following business day after course completion. It takes an average of 2-6 business days from the time we report your hours before the Commission updates your license and/or updates their website with the hours.

You should renew your license on or before your expiration date to avoid penalties. You can renew your license online using the commission website.
