Are there any subject area requirements for California Real Estate CE?

Broker First Time Renewal

Effective 1/1/2023: Licensees with renewal dates 1/1/2023 and later will be required to complete the following as part of the total 45 hours of continuing education
  • Ethics: 3 CE hours
  • Agency: 3 CE hours
  • Fair Housing: 3 CE hours (WebCE's Fair Housing course meets the interactive fair housing CE requirement)
  • Trust Fund Handling: 3 CE hours
  • Risk Management: 3 CE hours
  • Management and Supervision: 3 CE hours
  • Implicit Bias Training: 2 CE hours
  • Consumer Protection: Minimum 18 CE hours
The remaining hours may be completed in consumer service or consumer protection

Salesperson First Time Renewal

Effective 1/1/2023: Licensees with renewal dates 1/1/2023 and later will be required to complete the following as part of the total 45 hours of continuing education
  • Ethics: 3 CE hours
  • Agency: 3 CE hours
  • Fair Housing: 3 CE hours (WebCE's Fair Housing course meets the interactive fair housing CE requirement)

Broker and Salesperson Second and Subsequent Renewal

Effective 1/1/2023: Licensees with renewal dates 1/1/2023 and later will be required to complete the following as part of the total 45 hours of continuing education
  • One 9-hour survey course covering the seven mandatory subjects (Ethics, Agency, Fair Housing, Trust Fund Handling, Implicit Bias Training, Risk Management, and Management and Supervision) or licensees can choose to take each of the mandatory subjects separately
  • Consumer Protection: Minimum 18 CE hours
The remaining hours may be completed in consumer service or consumer protection

When does California Real Estate CE have to be completed?

Every four years from the license issuance date

Can Real Estate CE courses be repeated?

Courses cannot be repeated more than once in a 4 year license term.

Can Real Estate CE course hours carry over to the next renewal cycle?

Excess credit hours may not be carried forward to the next license term.

What is the California Real Estate license renewal process?

The DRE mails a renewal reminder letter to the licensee's mailing address of record approximately 60 days prior to the license expiration date. To renew your license, you may use the DRE online eLicensing or submit your renewal application 90 days prior to your license expiration date. Licensees need to complete the Continuing Education Course Verification Form in order to renew their license. The course certificate we provide contains the course approval number and completion date which will be needed during the renewal process with the DRE. Your renewal is on-time if the eLicensing transaction is completed or your application is postmarked on or before midnight of your license expiration date.

What are the WebCE California Real Estate CE course requirements?

  • WebCE courses are classified as online correspondence.
    Important Notice: No more than 15 hours worth of final exams can be completed in a 24 hour period. Study time starts at the time of enrollment.
  • Students will not have access to the final exam until the student’s time in the course equals the number of approved credit hours for the course.
  • Online correspondence exams are open-book and do not require a monitor.
  • Exam passing score: 70%
  • If a student fails the exam two times they must restart the course from the beginning. Pursuant to Article 25 – Section 3007.3 (f)(k)(o), students are allotted one minute per question on the final exams.

What is the access period for WebCE California Real Estate CE courses?

12 months from the original date of purchase, unless otherwise posted on the course description page and student dashboard. Access to courses CANNOT BE EXTENDED past 12 months from the original date of purchase.

How often does WebCE report California Real Estate CE course completions?

WebCE does not report course completions to the DRE.

Does WebCE supply a certificate of completion for California Real Estate CE courses?

Online PDF certificates of completion are available to print immediately after the final exam is passed. The licensee must keep a copy of each certificate of completion in his or her files for four years.

What are the California Real Estate CE requirements for non-residents?

Non-residents must complete the California continuing education requirements.

Are there any CE exemptions?

The following are exempt from California CE requirements:
  • Pursuant to Business and Professions (B&P) Code Section 10170.8, real estate licensees who submit satisfactory evidence to the Commissioner that they are 70 years of age or older and have been "licensees in good standing" for 30 continuous years in California.
  • Licenses in inactive status. Inactive licenses must still be renewed and renewal fee must be paid. CE must be completed to return to active status. License can only be inactive for 2 years from license expiration date, after that state exam must be retaken.
