Consumers' interest in green homes continues to grow. However, lack of information or misinformation about green home construction, particularly about costs, might dissuade them from purchasing eco-friendly homes. The costs for green building construction can be comparable to conventional building construction. Furthermore, green building materials and products like energy efficient appliances reduce energy and other costs. Thus, construction costs should be weighed against long-term cost savings when contemplating purchasing green homes. This course will discuss the costs and benefits of green homes.
In recent years, consumers have become increasingly more interested in green home building. Widespread media coverage on issues about climate change, the business sector's interest in green building, and home and garden shows' coverage of eco-friendly living has helped fuel consumer interest. As knowledge of green building grows, two types of consumers have emerged: skeptics and believers.
Skeptics are suspicious of the validity of green home building. Skeptics are cautious of businesses' claims that their products are eco-friendly and their services adhere to green practices. Therefore, real estate professionals should be prepared to demonstrate how green home building truly promotes sustainability, leads to long-term cost savings, and improves comfort and quality of life.
Upon course completion, the real estate licensee will have the ability to educate the home buyer about the costs and benefits of green construction.
